A Flight of Vision

It didn’t take long for us to realize that opening up a taproom in the Fernson Brewery would be one of our goals for the future, and we quickly found out that it wasn’t an easy one to tackle. We found ourselves working tirelessly with the city to interpret the zoning and code compliance laws that code in order to turn our dream of a taproom into a reality. We were trying to create a production brewery with a retail component to serve directly to the public, a feat that had yet to be accomplished here in Sioux Falls. After a lengthy four month process, our team found a way to use some new secondary zoning laws that would enable us to sell alcohol in an industrial setting. We quickly realized that our vision for the taproom was starting to reveal itself before our very eyes, as our brewery transformed from a simple industrial look into a warm and cozy atmosphere.

We take great pride in how we have been able to create an atmosphere that is perfect for having a beer with family and friends. You walk into our showroom and you see that it truly is a unique environment like no other. It has an amazing wall covered in 120 year old barn wood and Edison lightbulbs that hang from metal and rope chandeliers.  The polished high-top tables and chairs add to this inviting environment and the homemade metal Fernson sign overlooks our freshly waxed bar with an assortment of our beers on tap. The best part for us is when we get to see the look on peoples’ faces as they walk in and see what we’ve created.

We had a soft opening for the taproom on October 1st of this year, but officially opened it up to the public on October 8th, and our team has been working the taproom every weekend since. Our taproom has a 95 person capacity and we welcome private functions and events like corporate parties, wedding receptions, bachelor parties, and rehearsal dinners. Having the taproom in the brewery also gives beer enthusiasts a better perspective of how we craft each one of their favorite beers and the processes we use to create them. When a vision like this comes together, it’s hard not to get excited about sharing it with the world.
